President Sharon McNair welcomed members of the Washington/Tyrrell Counties Retired School Personnel to another exciting year with a display board of memories of the organization’s history.  Recognition was given to the officers and chairpersons of committees to give their reports.  Members who had passed since the last meeting were remembered with prayers and with cards of condolence that had been sent to their families.

Vice president Julius Walker, Jr. introduced Dr. David O. White, Ed.D., Superintendent of Washington County Schools, who reviewed the qualities of a classroom environment that would inspire students to “be better than they expect to be.”   He reminded everyone that when teachers provide a good foundation in education and opportunities to succeed, the students are inspired to be life-long learners.  He described how teachers are “ready, willing, and able” to encourage student to be anything they want to be.

Old business continued with reports from chairpersons about the service activities of members with the food pantry, nursing home visits, and other volunteer experiences. Thank you notes from recipients of the scholarships that had been awarded this school year were read.

In new business, members were provided tips of managing stress to maintain a good quality of life.  Members were encouraged to attend the Fall Convention and to visit websites to stay informed about the many benefits available as members of the organization.

The meeting concluded with drawings for door prizes and the recognition of members with birthdays in this quarter.  The meeting was adjourned with words of inspiration and encouragement.
